7 Things You Should Do to Keep Your Metabolism Revving

Wouldn’t it be nice to have that super-fast metabolism we once did as a child, where we could pretty much eat anything we wanted and never seemed to gain weight? Ah, those were the days. Now, if we just look at certain foods, it seems like our pants fit tighter. Well, it doesn’t have to be like that if you are doing things to keep your metabolism revving.

Below are seven amazing strategies you can utilize to boost your metabolism and keep it firing on all cylinders — all day, every day.

You can utilize one or all these strategies in order to reap the benefits. Clearly, the more you implement, the better the chances are of skyrocketing your metabolism into orbit and helping manage your body weight in the process.

Let’s dive in and keep your metabolism revving!

1. Lift heavy weights

Something many people don’t realize is that muscle can burn calories all day long versus fat in the body. When you increase your lean muscle mass, that muscle needs energy, and to do so, must use up calories.

What’s even better is that muscle burns calories even while at rest and keep your metabolism revving. Can you imagine burning calories while not even in the gym?! Don’t be afraid of adding quality muscle mass to your physique, by doing so, you’ll naturally increase your metabolism and help keep your body fat in check.

2. HIIT cardio

High-intensity interval training is a great way to keep your metabolism revving, even after you’ve completed the workout. These brief and intense bouts of exercise are an amazing fat-burner and have become a secret weapon when it comes to reducing body fat.

Additionally, utilizing a HIIT style of training can drastically cut down on the amount of time spent in the gym — who wouldn’t want more time to do other things? No one enjoys 60 minutes of cardio on top of weight training. But, when you incorporate HIIT, you can get even more benefits than the 60-minute session in half the time!

3. Eat spicy foods

Spicy foods such as peppers generally contain a substance called capsaicin. Capsaicin has the ability to increase your metabolism. While this isn’t some magic additive that you should be putting in and on all of your food, it can help you make subtle changes to your physique while helping keep your metabolism revving.

4. Get more sleep

Don’t underestimate how important sleep is. If you aren’t getting the recommended 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night, you’re missing out on a great way to not only recover properly from your workouts but also keep your metabolism revving.

Lack of sleep has been associated with insulin resistance and an overall increase in blood sugar levels. To keep your body and metabolism functioning properly, work on going to bed early enough to allow yourself to get a better night’s sleep to achieve the full 7-9 hours that are recommended. Your body and your mind will thank you the following day.
