Steamy Texas Bombshell: Interview with IFBB Pro Jennifer Dawn

Below is an interview I did with the lovely Jennifer Dawn. Enjoy!

An Interview with IFBB Bikini Pro, Jennifer Dawn

The stunning Jennifer Dawn grew up in Minot, North Dakota until she was 17. Just before her senior year of High School, her mother moved them to Fort Walton Beach, FL. The move wasn’t all that bad for her (other than going to class with the beach staring at her) and was actually the best thing that could have happened to her. She got a track and field scholarship to Troy State University in Troy, AL and obtained her Bachelor of Science degree. After college Jennifer worked for the City of Montgomery, AL. She loved her job but was not happy where she was living, so she and her sister packed everything up and we moved back with their mom in Dallas, TX where Jennifer still resides today.

Finding Her Way in Fitness

The fitness side of Jennifer’s life started at an early age as she credits being a competitive athlete at a young age as the reason why it has been easy to stay healthy as an adult. She had a base to start from and already knew so many things about weight lifting and running that some of her competitors had to learn from scratch. She mentioned it’s so great to see young people involved in sports instead of being inactive. It teaches them self-discipline, sportsmanship, healthy eating, time management, and many other things she mentioned.

As most Americans do, Jennifer Dawn made a New Year’s revolution in 2010 to get herself in better conditioning. She had already lost 20 pounds doing CrossFit and felt that she could try out a show to see if it was something she would enjoy. The first show she entered was the West Texas Classic because it was away from home. She mentioned she didn’t feel confident enough to get in front of anyone she knew just yet. She really wasn’t sure what to expect and was still not even close to being in “competition” shape. Jennifer Dawn chose the bikini division because she thought the figure girls had to have abs. She placed 5th out of 7 and was overjoyed. The moment she stepped off the stage she wanted to know what show was next.

In 2010 she placed top 5 in every show except Nationals. In 2011 she had a roller coaster ride and every show was different for her. Jennifer would be up in top 5 and then down with last call-outs. It was very emotional time for her. Then in April 2011 she was looking for what would take her physique to the next level and started working with the Bombshell team who gave her the tools to transform her body. When the 2011 Nationals came up she told herself that this is the last show of the year and what better place than Miami to earn her Pro Card—and she did. She had put in all of the work and used all of her experience to relax and have fun. She was in utter disbelief when they called her for 1st place and actually thought that it was a mistake when she was standing by herself.

Once Jennifer Dawn became an IFBB Pro, she chose to become a Regional Coach in TX for Team Bombshell. If a woman decides to be a member of Team Bombshell, Jennifer can take them through their workouts, posing, makeup, and travel to their shows. Jennifer mentioned that if anyone wants to become a Bombshell member they can email her and she will send them an application.

A normal routine for Jennifer consists of a lot of supersets with weights and about an hour of cardio. Her diet is high in protein and moderate in carbs. It seems this combo is what works best for her body. In the bikini class, Jennifer Dawn trains legs a lot and under trains things like back and chest which aren’t necessarily things you want to build up when competing in bikini. If she wanted to compete in figure it wouldn’t be hard for her to do that, as she has been told that she is a “tweenie” and could do bikini or figure. Jennifer admits though that she likes the suits for bikini better as well as the posing.

The Camera Loved Jennifer

In 2010, Jennifer Dawn got approached at the Dallas Europa by Rich Baker who was with RKP (Robert Kennedy Publishing) at the time. He asked her if she wanted to pose with some bodybuilders for MuscleMag—of course, she said yes! Not only did she get a great shoot with Rich, but Gregory James was there and she was able to get another shoot with him as well. To top it all off, it was at a water park and she hadn’t been to one of those since a young age. Jennifer Dawn can’t say it enough that she is so grateful to the friends that she has made in the fitness industry. She has been published in MuscleMag, Flex Magazine, competition coverage in Muscle and Fitness Hers and NPC News Magazine, World Physique Magazine (Back Cover), and FitnessX.

Jennifer would love to continue modeling as long as possible and plans on continuing to make fitness her lifestyle to stay fit and healthy. As a source of inspiration, there have been some beautiful women both older and younger than her that have been in mainstream magazines that continue to remind her that age is really just a number and that anyone no matter what age who lives a healthy lifestyle can be fit and beautiful.

As if being in magazines wasn’t already enough amazing exposure, Jennifer Dawn did a couple of video workouts with Muscular Development and really enjoyed being in front of the camera. She has also had some post-competition interviews and found it is a learning experience. Social media doesn’t always have a filter and when you mess up or say something you didn’t mean it is hard to not take it personally. The way she handles it is by reminding herself that everyone has an opinion and if there is something said to her that is constructive criticism and she can get grow from the experience, then she will learn from it.

Getting Into the Business Side of the Industry

Being a gorgeous model definitely has its perks. Jennifer’s looks have earned her the right to be a Dymatize “Featured Athlete.” She mentions it has been so exciting to be a part of their team. They really make her feel welcomed and it is so easy to represent a company that does everything right. Their product lines are safe and regularly tested. They taste great and do what they say they’re going to do. Jennifer Dawn has had the opportunity to work some of their demos and potentially be in one of their advertisements. Her goal with Dymatize is to be one of the Elite Team Members and as time goes on she will hopefully prove herself to them.

Another one of Jennifer’s sponsors is CJ’s Elite Wear. CJ’s is such a hard-working company. CJ and her staff work long hours to make the best suits out there. She (CJ) sponsored Jennifer’s first suit for the 2011 Arnold Amateur and has done so since. Jennifer loves referring girls her way not only because CJ helped her out because she was broke, but because she really makes a good suit that you can wear for more than one show and makes them with love and dedication.

On top of CJ’s Elite Wear, Jennifer Dawn is also sponsored by Silverback Krew. They hook her up with some great quality clothes that she can wear for a competition, to the gym, or just on a casual day around the house. Adam from Silverback Krew has turned out to be a really good friend to not only Jennifer and her family, but also to her friends.

It’s because of the great experiences she has had with her sponsors that Jennifer Dawn would like to start her own clothing line for athletes. She has been consumed with shows and training that it hasn’t even made it to paper, yet—but said as soon as time permits, a plan will be in place.

Looking At the Big Picture

When looking back over her life, Jennifer Dawn hopes that she has made others make a decision to live a healthy lifestyle through her teachings. She mentioned she might even try to be a promoter for a show or even a judge. There are so many opportunities within the fitness industry and she doesn’t want to narrow anything down at this point. She never guessed that she would be where she is now so early in her career and even now interviewing for such as great magazine as Fit Treasures is a dream come true.

When asked if there was anyone she would like to thank for helping her get to where she is today she said, “Thank you Fit Treasures Magazine for taking the time to interview me. My family and friends have supported me no matter what. Here are a few of my favorite people and companies that have supported me and continue to support.”

*I conducted this interview with Jennifer Dawn on behalf of Fit Treasures Magazine who has now gone out of business.  The interview and title image was approved for use through its original use on the Fit Treasure Magazine website.*
