Social Media Lies and Not Telling the Whole Story

Do you scroll through social media religiously and see all of the good things that are going on in someone’s life or business? You think to yourself how great it must be to be that individual and how successful he or she is. Little do you know, you’re only hearing a small portion of that person’s life. And quite frankly, it’s the only piece they want you to know and hear about and because of it, people post social media lies. And while they aren’t always false information, it’s only part of the big picture.

No one has a perfect life. That athlete. That entrepreneur. That parent. They all have stresses going on in their life that they don’t share openly on social media. I’m not here to say you should change your opinion of that individual, but what I’m saying is that you shouldn’t compare what’s going on in your life to someone else’s that you see online due to social media lies.

It’s because of social media lies that people create the illusion that they were an overnight success. That a business’ growth was exponential year after year without a hiccup — when really, that couldn’t be further from the truth. No one sees the lonely nights. The hardships. The financial strains. The broken friendships. The 18 hour days. The time away from their family. All because they were building something bigger than themselves. Something that changes lives. But they tell people only what they want you to hear. Everyone is on the outside looking in, not knowing the truth or social media lies.

Social Media Lies

While I don’t feel that these social media lies are hurtful or in malicious intent, they are simply protecting part of their life that they don’t want to share. Personally, I don’t share my frustrations on social media or the things I have going on in my life — the stresses. You know why? For starters, it’s no one’s business. But also, regardless of what I have going on in my life, someone else has it way worse. So, while social media lies exist, we are all protecting the privacy of a family or individual. Stop worrying comparing yourself to people you follow on social media. Do you. Worry about the things you can control and not on the things you cannot. Regardless of what you read, nothing in your life is going to change unless you make it change and put in the work and time.

I want to see you all happy and successful. I put out quality content because I want to make your life better. I want to educate and inspire people. Regardless if I’m having a good day or a bad day, my emotions remain the same in my messaging. So sure, I post social media lies where I’m upbeat and happy when I’m really not — but, so does everyone else. Look for motivation online. But don’t let that motivation be obsessive to the point where you wish your life was like someone else’s. You don’t know what lies behind their computer screen.
