Axum Gear Earbuds: Beats Killers?

It’s no secret that I love music.  I’ve been a radio personality for many years during my career and always had a love for music.  I listen to a wide variety of genres, but when it comes to my workouts, I want something to get me pumped up.  I’ve been a fan of Beats By Dre for the longest time and have a couple different pairs.  I also sometimes use my Apple AirPods as well (but not often).  Then I was introduced to Axum Gear Earbuds.

Axum Gear Earbuds: The Review

While I enjoy earbuds, I’m just not a fan of using them when it comes to workouts.  I’m moving around, I’m intense, and I don’t want to worry about them falling out or shifting on me.  That’s why I love my over-the-ear Beats headphones — and they deliver some great bass which I love when working out.  But then I was introduced to wireless Bluetooth Axum Gear Earbuds.  Axum Gear Earbuds were on Indiegogo to get things started and already have shipped out two batches of product with a third currently in the works.

I received my earbuds and quickly tore open the packaging to give them a try.  Surprisingly, right out of the box they fit my ears perfectly.  Now, if you need some adjustments, the packaging comes with many different rubber tips as well as outer bodies that you can use to create the perfect fit (18 different size combinations).  Looking at the Axum Gear Earbuds, they look HUGE until you put them in your ears and it’s almost as if they were custom-made for your ears — the fit is great and extremely comfortable and sleek.

I paired each of the earbuds to my phone (which was extremely easy) and I was off to the races.  I pulled up some music on my phone and started listening.  Right off the bat, I knew these were different than other earbuds I’ve tried — they stayed in my ears and the sound quality was great.  The audio for phone calls was even clear and crisp (even though I’m not interested in using these for that purpose and if you bother me during my workout, I’m not taking your call anyway).

Overall, the sound quality from the Axum Gear Earbuds was amazing.  And I can honestly say, I’ve never experienced that amount of bass in any other earbud I’ve tried.  And for good reason, the driver in the Axum Gear Earbuds are around 20% bigger than what’s currently found on the market.  Additionally, the battery life seems to last forever.  I was able to get in several workouts without ever needing to charge the earbuds.  And charging was a breeze with the included charging case.  They claim you get 24 hours of playtime (with the charging case) and I would say that is accurate from what I have experienced.

Constructive Criticism

You all know I’m not going to review something without looking at a product from all angles.  There are a couple complaints I have which I feel they could improve on, but I understand one of these would increase the overall price of the product, but I think it would be well worth it.  A minor detail I wish they would have improved upon is the charging case.  Don’t get me wrong, it does its job and serves its purpose, but it feels like a cheap quality plastic.  Just holding it in your hand and using it, you don’t get the sense that its durable and high quality.  Also, there’s no way you’re going to put the charging case in your pocket.

Now, I know my Apple AirPods are completely different than the Axum Gear Earbuds, but I like the fact that when I’m not wearing them, I can store them in my pocket and have them charging.  With this charging case, unless you’re wearing loose fitting pants/shorts, they aren’t going to fit.

The only other thing I can say I’d like to see improved would be the slight hissing sound you get when nothing is playing through the earbuds.  I’m not sure the cause of this (there might be a reason), but it’s a little annoying.  However, you don’t get any of that hissing noise when you are listening to music which is good.  So overall, this isn’t a huge negative, but just one that I noticed.

Overall Impression

Honestly, I dig these Axum Gear Earbuds.  Would I recommend them?  Absolutely.  What I love to see are small brands coming out with products that are beating larger brands.  They have teams that go into the trenches and give the consumer what they want based off of their interests and feedback.  If you want to learn more, you can always go to the Axum Gear website for more information or to purchase them to try for yourself.
