Cellucor Alpha Amino BCAA Review

I’ve been using BCAAs for many years now, and my go-to has always been Scivation XTEND.  However, lately, I’ve been trying various brands to see how they compare.  This review is specifically on the Cellucor Alpha Amino.  They consider this product a “Performance BCAA” so I will also touch on that in this review as well.  Most BCAA products on the market only contain valine, leucine, and isoleucine.  The Cellucor Alpha Amino is more of a hydration and recovery product, versus a straight recovery powder.

What Makes Cellucor Alpha Amino Different?

For starters, it’s not just a BCAA product which is pretty unique.  Cellucor Alpha Amino contains electrolytes.  This makes sense for several reasons.  It’s important to stay hydrated for health reasons — this is should be a given.  If you’ve ever played sports or trained intensely, you can feel the difference between when you’re well-hydrated and when you aren’t.  And from a performance standpoint, you cannot perform at a high level if you are not properly hydrated.  So, not only are you getting the hydration benefits, but performance benefits as well.

Following an intense workout, Cellucor Alpha Amino can help kick-start the recovery process — replenishing lost minerals and supplying the muscles with amino acids to help rebuild torn down muscle fibers.

Taste

I have the fruit punch flavor as well as the icy blue razz.  Which do I prefer?  Personally, I like the blue raspberry flavor simply because I’m played out on anything fruit punch flavor lately.  With so many brands coming out with unique and delicious flavors, fruit punch simply isn’t appealing to me anymore but I wanted to compare it to other brands who also have a fruit punch flavor.  Now, that’s not to say that I didn’t like the Cellucor Alpha Amino fruit punch, it just means that I would have preferred a different flavor it I wasn’t looking to compare it to the rest of the fruit punch products out on the market.  If I had to try another flavor, it would probably be between watermelon, mixed berry, and pink lemonade.  Maybe I’ll pick those up later and give them a try after I use up the tubs I currently have.

Mixability

Flawless.  I take a shaker bottle, fill it with 12 ounces of water, dump a scoop of the Cellucor Alpha Amino in, and I’m good to go.  They recommend using between 8-12 ounces of water — I go on the high end of the recommendation and it still has a very flavorful taste without it being watered down any.  I literally give the shaker a few shakes with the lid on and everything has dissolved.  Easy peasy.

Profile

I like the fact that it’s more of an all-in-one profile between having the BCAAs as well as the electrolytes.  I think the combination makes sense.  The instantized BCAA blend is a 2:1:1 ratio (5g), so it’s good to go there.  On top of the BetaPower addition to the profile to help with hydration, it also has coconut water powder as well, which is a nice addition.  You also get 3,750mg of EAAs (essential amino acids) per serving.

Does Cellucor Alpha Amino Get My Recommendation?

I’d definitely recommend Cellucor Alpha Amino if you were looking to add a BCAA product to your supplement regimen or if you were looking for something new to try.  Like I said, I’m a HUGE fan of Scivation XTEND, and this product lives up to its label claims.  Will I be purchasing it again?  For sure.
