4 Physique Benefits of Omega-3s You Probably Never Knew

Omega-3s seemed like a hot supplement many years ago and then seemingly overnight it seemed like not as many people were talking about it – which is a shame. Now, that’s not to say that people aren’t taking them anymore, as many swear by omega-3s and include them in their daily supplement regimen. Omega-3s have been shown to help improve triglyceride levels, support a healthy heart and cardiovascular system, improve cognition, help lower blood pressure, and many other benefits. However, there are also some benefits you may not have been aware of that can help enhance the look and appearance of your body and physique.

In this article, I want to showcase four physique benefits of omega-3s and help you understand that along with the health benefits that can come from supplementing with omega-3s, there are also some additional benefits that can help you look better too.

 

The Basics

Do you need to use a supplement in order to get adequate omega-3 fatty acids to see health and physique benefits? The answer is no. However, that would mean having a diet that is full of things such as fish to take in high amounts of omega-3s. Most people are not going to eat near enough whole food options to take in enough omega-3s to make a noticeable difference. It’s for that reason why so many turn to omega-3 supplements such as fish oil to fill in their nutritional gaps.

There are three main components of omega-3s that we need to focus on through our supplementation and those are docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). Don’t forget about omega-6 too!

If you aren’t looking to eat fish on a regular basis to take in adequate omega-3s, a supplement can be extremely convenient. Omega-3s can be purchased in two main forms – pill or liquid. While the taste of the liquid has come a long way, the pill version is still by far the most commonly purchased and used version on the market. The liquid version does come flavored but many who use the liquid mention that they suffer from “fish burps” after drinking it. Now, that’s not to say that the pills won’t also give you the fish burps as they start to break down in the stomach.

As with any supplement on the market, there is always a “may” or a “results may vary” disclaimer. And while I’d like to tell you that omega-3s are some magical weight loss supplement, that’s not the case. But, that’s not to say that when you supplement with omega-3s, that you may find some weight loss enhancements through continuous use.
