Shrewd Food Protein Croutons: A Protein-Packed Salad Topping

I was walking through Costco the other night and I noticed an item that read “protein croutons.”  Being the health and fitness nerd that I am, I decided to investigate.  The product was called Shrewd Food Protein Croutons.  The call-outs on the packaging said that each serving contained 10g of protein.  Hmm.  Sounds almost too good to be true that there’s a protein crouton that would actually be healthy AND taste good.  Well, I was intrigued and decided to get some to try which now leads me to this review.  Overall, I think you’re going to enjoy what I’m about to tell you.

Shrewd Food Protein Croutons? No Way!

I’m not going to lie, normally food items like this taste disgusting so I went into this already preparing for the worst.  I dumped the protein croutons on my salad and noticed they actually looked like real croutons, only they were round instead of shaped like a cube.  The bag mentioned that the flavor was parmesan herb which would go with just about any type of salad I would ever make myself.

I took a bite of my salad and thought “that actually tastes like a crouton.”  Thinking maybe it was just a mixture of the salad, cheese, vegetables and dressing disguising the flavor, I picked out some of the Shrewd Food Protein Croutons to try solo.  DANG!  I wasn’t imagining things, they were delicious as a standalone crouton.

Is It Really Healthy?

Indeed!  The fact that you’re reading this review tells me that you’re interested in taking a stance when it comes to your health and the things you put in your body.  Me too.  There are way too many products out there with all these call-outs on the packaging yet when you read the label it’s terrible for you.  That isn’t the case here with these protein croutons.  The profile on these Shrewd Food Protein Croutons is pretty amazing.  One serving contains:

  • Calories: 60
  • Fat: 2g
  • Carbohydrates: 2g
  • Sugar: 1g
  • Protein: 10g

I was also pleasantly surprised when I read the ingredient profile and found milk protein isolate was the main source of protein.  Putting Shrewd Food Protein Croutons on my salad was like adding protein powder to it.  Super convenient, tastes delicious, great crunchy texture like a real (unhealthy) crouton, and overall a fantastic way for me to make my salads healthier with some added protein.

The Shrewd Food Protein Croutons are gluten free, low calorie, low carb, low sugar, soy free, nut free, and obviously high in protein.  You could even consider them keto-friendly.  There are no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives used.  Those are all the things many of us are looking for when it comes to cleaning up our nutrition.

Will I Buy More and Do I Recommend Them?

I absolutely will buy more and you should definitely pick some up to try.  I highly recommend these Shrewd Food Protein Croutons to put on your salad to increase the protein content of your salad.  Sure, you could put some steak, chicken, or fish in your salad, but why not boost the overall protein even more while adding some crunch and a very complementing flavor to the salad?  Personally, I’d never turn down an extra 10g of protein in anything as long as it tastes good.  Would you?

If you are interested in trying the Shrewd Food Protein Croutons for yourself, I would highly recommend you check out your local Costco as they should have them stocked.  If for some reason you don’t see them at your nearest location, I did some digging and I found them on Amazon where you can purchase 10 bags for only $14.99.  They also have a subscribe and save option that can save you anywhere from 5-15% too.

Overall, I’m happy with the Shrewd Food Protein Croutons.  I like them so much that I hope they come out with more flavors.  They’ve changed the salad game for me in a good way and I think you’ll be delightfully surprised if you try them for yourself.
