Interview with Scivation President & Bodybuilder Marc Lobliner

Let’s start off by getting some background information on you. Who is Marc Lobliner? What is your educational background that allowed you to get to where you are today?

Marc Lobliner:  While in college at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, CA., I worked my way up to Personal Training Coordinator for Bally Total Fitness while in college and soon got recruited to work my dream job, the place that started it all – Weider Publications! I spent five years at Weider Publications in charge of Endemic Business Development and as a Senior Account Manager.

I acted as a marketing consultant to small, medium and large companies to help grow their business which would, in turn, lead to a natural growth in their advertising budgets. I loved this job immensely. We made a lot of stuff happen.

I reluctantly left Weider for a position as a founding member of INSTONE. I felt it was time for my career to progress and that I had topped out at Weider. Long story short – it didn’t work out. I was about to leave the industry to go back into publishing for a mainstream company but decided to stay around as a marketing consultant. From there, SciVation was created and Primaforce soon followed.

My educational background is in marketing and marketing communications and I am a former competitive powerlifter. I now train as a bodybuilder and for general health.

If you weren’t doing what you’re doing right now, what occupation would you be in?

Marc Lobliner:  Publishing. Prior to starting Scivation, I received a couple extremely lucrative offers to be an ad sales executive. This is what I do, my specialty so to speak. If I had my dream job that CANNOT be owning a supplement company, I would be a teacher so that I can help kids reach their goals. In fact, I still plan on doing this sometime in my future. I also plan on getting my Ph.D. in Psychology. I never set goals and NOT accomplish them!

What was the first supplement that you formulated and brought to the market?

Marc Lobliner:  Scivation Neurostim powder. Then came Primaforce Creaform, Glutaform and Substance WPI. Neurostim and Substance WPI are both discontinued, but they helped build the foundation for the Scivation house we live in now.

How did you get started with Scivation?

Marc Lobliner:  Upon getting canned by INSTONE (where are THEY now???? HAHAHA!!!), I decided it was time to take a risk. I went over it with my wife and since we did not have kids, we decided that I can always go back to selling ads and marketing programs. I took the plunge and although I am not making NEARLY what I would have been in publishing, I am living my dream and helping people reach their health and physique goals!

Can you tell us a little bit about Scivation as a company and where you believe the company is going?

Marc Lobliner:  We are a company that practices what we preach. We train, diet and some of us compete just like our consumers. We know first hand what it takes to get results and it is our lifestyle. We aren’t just some company with sponsored athletes and fat guys in polo shirts, we USE our supplements and rely on them to help us achieve our best condition and health possible.

I see Scivation leading the way in Workout Nutrition. That means Nutrition taken during and around training as well as supplements to further enhance diet, such as Dialene 4 and Sesamin.

Being a bodybuilder yourself, what is your opinion on bodybuilding right now?  Do you think they need to be the biggest freak on stage is hurting the sport?  You yourself have completely changed your physique and are completely shredded.

Marc Lobliner:  I like big and freaky, but I also think Symmetry and CONDITIONING should play a role. I see too many non-pretty, freaky people winning. Bodybuilding is about putting in work as well. Conditioning usually means dieting and training to the extreme. Bodybuilding to me is the EXTREME presentation of health and fitness. We show what can be done through diet and exercise to an extreme degree.

Being BIG and shredded is great if you look good. The big, bloated bellies and weird synthol lumps should be judged negatively. Size at all costs not only looks unhealthy but is unhealthy. While I am not against drug use in competition, I do not see a reason to reward people for being big IF it detracts from their presentation of a complete, beautiful physique.

You are competing year round now and are pretty much in contest shape all the time.  Can you tell us a little bit about your first show and what you were feeling as well as what you took away from it?  It seems like you taught the bodybuilding bug.

Marc Lobliner:  In my first show last year, I thought I was in shape but after being in shape this year, I realized that I was sadly mistaken. Although I won my class, I had a fat ass. I made great improvements this year and instead of fat on my ass, I had striations, YEAH BUDDY!

I am now going to take until 2009 or 2010 to get as big as I can. I am hoping to step onstage at under 4% body fat at 195lbs when I get on that national stage and go for my PRO CARD!

What contests do you have coming up and what are your future bodybuilding goals?

Marc Lobliner:  I am DONE for now. The goal is an IFBB Pro Card, period.

In your opinion, what is the best supplement out on the market these days?

Marc LoblinerScivation Xtend. It is the only supplement I absolutely cannot live without.

You’re now a dad, can you tell us a little bit about the new addition to your family and how it has impacted your life?

Marc Lobliner:  It changes everything. I also have one in the oven, a baby boy named Thomas Harrison Lobliner after Katie’s late father (Thomas) and my late father (Harry).

I am more emotional now, I hate being away from home traveling (but I do it to survive!), and I cry a lot! It has brought out the softer side of the “Machine”. I also have to find time to spend with Kambria when not traveling and this is tough as Scivation is a very demanding life!

Both you and your wife have gone through some amazing transformations, can you tell the readers a little bit about what you both went through?

Marc Lobliner:  We were both overweight. My football career ended and I had no need to weigh 295 anymore. She got the bug too and we lost a ton of weight!

You do a lot for the bodybuilding community including writing books, articles, and having your own email newsletter (just to name a few).  Can you tell the readers a little bit about all the extra stuff you do?

Marc Lobliner:  We have our books at www.scivationbooks.com. I am truly blessed in that my pride and passion translates 100% in what I do for a living.

We also sponsor natural bodybuilding and have the most dominant force in natural bodybuilding, Team Scivation (see bios at www.scivationbooks.com). We have an active role in the NPC in North Carolina and also help promoters put on SWEET shows for the NPC, OCB and many other organizations all over the USA.

What is the one thing that you want people to remember you for?

Marc Lobliner:  That I am a good person, a family man, and that my top priority is to help people. Sure, I like making money, but the bottom line is that I am doing this to make a difference and I KNOW we are. The other day while competing, believe it or not, I had a woman come up and THANK me for helping prevent diabetes in her and her family’s life. She also uses it with CHILDREN at a diabetes clinic! She has read our books and uses the Cut Diet without refeeds on these borderline diabetic children and they are getting leaner and feeling better AND controlling blood sugar. Since my father died from this horrible, debilitating disease, this has really made me think how much I love helping people reach their goals. Not just physique goals, but HEALTHY LIFESTYLE goals.

Is there anyone you would like to thank for helping you get to where you are today?

Marc Lobliner:  My wife, period. I can make a list and thank the world, but those who helped me know who they are and don’t need that. Katie is everything to me.
